Einstein famously said that the definition of insanity "is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." But here’s another definition for you: Going crazy is thinking about the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, no matter how large or small that "thing" might be.
Signs that the OVERTHINKER IMPOSTER is at the forefront include: dwelling on past events or situations, second-guessing your past decisions, or replaying mistakes in your mind.
If you have a dominant OVERTHINKER IMPOSTER, you have a hard time finding that "off" button, because you’re often too busy overthinking why you overthink about things in the first place! With each successive thought, new questions and reflections emerge that lead to more overthinking. The result is paralysis by analysis, which inevitably leads to an emotional or mental gridlock that prevents you from moving forward in life. Not only do you over-analyze; you over-monitor, over-evaluate, and ultimately try to control things with the sheer power of your mind. And guess what? There’s a term for this tricky cycle: It’s called a mental clusterf*ck.
To combat the OVERTHINKER IMPOSTER, start to focus on problem-solving first and schedule time for reflection about what’s really troubling you.
